    Description

    Cecil Myerson
    Navajo
This is a very rare and exceptional piece. It is an authentic Navajo sand painting by Cecil Myerson who was the premier Navajo sand painter of the late 20th century and patriarch of the Myerson family of Navajo sand painters. His wife Jean and his sons, Sammy, Orlando and Federick are all highly accomplished contemporary Navajo artisans. The sand paintings by Cecil are often large, very elaborate, highly detailed pieces intended for serious collectors of Navajo and indigenous art.
The work is created, signed, annotated and dated in the manner of Cecil Myerson. Verso it is annotated "Whirling Logs", "This is a ceremonial sand painting use for healing in many ways". In Navajo tradition the universe is very delicately balanced. If the balance is upset an illness or disaster will follow. The sacred sand painting is palliative.
The sand painting measures 16" by 16". Frame OA measures 27" by 27". Mat is in an intricate Southwest bevel design. Frame is very complimentary to the
turquoise sand. Painting has very subtle s
hades of lavender, pink mauve and turquoise. Navajo
symbolism includes female Ye'i (spirits), corn and feathers.
