    Description

Longhair Kachina Painting by Hopi Kachina Carver, Sandra Suhu, Matted 16"x 12".  This original tempura painting is in good condition, it has one small indentation shown in the last photo.  The mat has some light soiling which probably will not show when framed. The painting measures 8 1/2" x 11 1/2" on a cream colored mat that is 12" x 16".  It is signed: Sandra Huhu, Hopi.  The painting is of a Longhair Kachina mask.  Hopi Kachina carver Sandra Suhu has been carving kachinas since 1995.  She is a member of the Rabbit/Tobacco Clan and is one of the only female Hopi kachina carvers. Her greatest influence was her grandfather who recognized her talent & offered her encouragement.  This continued encouragement of Sandra's grandfather was a major deviation for a man of his traditional background. Suhu was born in Gallup, New Mexico in 1971 & grew up on Third Mesa, Arizona. Her kachinas are amazing works of art & highly collectible. The Long Hair katsina is a singer of sweet songs who brings rain & flowers. His beard & loose tassels of feathers symbolize rain & clouds. Their purpose is to bring rain & it is said that they seldom dance without the appearance of a soft gentle rain.   It's a rare painting by the incredible Hopi kachina carver, Sandra Suhu & a must-have for any Native American art or Hopi kachina collector.
