    Description

For auction is a wonderful arts and crafts piece of art pottery made by Hampshire Pottery of Keene, NH. The piece is known as a "Planter" or "Low Bowl. The planter is a nice cabinet size as it measures 5 1/2" in diameter and is 2 5/8" tall. The inside opening is 2 7/8" in diameter.
This planter has a wonderful rich matte cucumber green glaze that is pretty frothy on one side. The planter has a squat form with rolled sides that tapers in at the round bottom foot. This planter display a wonderful pattern of a Tree line. This pattern surrounds the center of the vessel. There are tall trees with smaller trees set back. This is such a lovely Arts & Crafts pattern. I believe this to be shape number "25" in the Hampshire Pottery book "A Portfolio of Pottery Hampshire Ware 1871.
This planter is considered to be in excellent condition as there are no cracks, nicks, chips or dings. This are a few tiny glaze pops along the bottom edge of the bowl. This cannot be seen when displayed and considered
    insignificant
    .
The planter is signed on the bottom with the incised "Hampshire Pottery" in capital block letters along with the M in a circle mark. We can date this piece by this mark. The "M" in a circle mark was used to honor Cadmon Robertson's wife "Emoretta". She was the sister of the founder, James Scollay Taft. Cadmon Robertson was the head chemist for the glazes and ran Hampshire Pottery from 1904-1914. This mark was used during that time period.
Hampshire Pottery started producing matte glazes in 1891. This was 7 years earlier than their main competitor Grueby Faience of Boston, Mass. Hampshire Pottery resembles the style of Grueby but were much more affordable as they were mold made pieces as opposed to hand thrown. This will make a wonderful addition to any matte green pottery collection of art pottery and would look great on that Stickley, mission, arts and crafts bookcase.

I want to apologize for slowing down my shipping time. Ebay forced me into managed payments in July of the year 2020.
I used to get my money in 24 hours. I now get it in 3-4 business days. I was told it would be better for me and my fees would go down. This has been the opposite as my fees have actually increased and now it takes longer for me to receive the payments
. Because of this slowdown I will not ship until the payment has made it into my bank account. No store lets you out of the building with the
    merchandise
    unless it is paid for.
    They are also n
ow charging all sellers a commission of 11.7% on sales tax. Pay Pal used to charge 2.9% payment processing fee but Ebay has changed this to 11.7%. This is an increase of 8.8% on the sales tax portion. They are now making a profit on the sales tax and treating it as a sale which in my eyes is wrong!! They did the same on the shipping charges several years ago. They use to not charge anything and now they are charging 11.7% commission on shipping as well. This has raised the cost to ship items to you, the buyer and this is factored into my shipping charges.
If you feel what Ebay is doing is wrong or you don't agree them please contact Ebay and voice your opinion. Maybe if enough of you do this, they will change their policy.
